Access to HE Diploma (Nursing)

Course Overview

Are you already working in a health based role and looking to up-skill or seeking a career change?

The Access to HE Diploma (Nursing) course is an established, national qualification which will allow you to apply for Nursing related degree courses and gain admission to University even if you do not currently have traditional Level 3 qualifications.

This course is suitable for you if you currently don’t have any qualifications or if you have been out of full-time education for a period of time, but have an interest in pursuing a nursing related profession.

Additional Financial Support

Bursary Fund

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be provided with additional financial support through the Bursary Fund, which can be used to provide financial assistance with travel, course equipment and childcare costs on the days you attend college.

Assessment

This Diploma has a strong emphasis on the skills required of a nurse in the 21st century.

You will study a group of mandatory units which will provide you with a good understanding of the underpinning knowledge relevant to the role of a nurse, including care principles, basic anatomy and physiology, care principles and an introduction to the healthcare system. 

You will then have the opportunity to select from a range of optional units based around equality and diversity in the relevant values required within the nursing sector. This will also include a communication unit, linked to speaking and listening which is a vital skill for any nurse.

Learners primarily progress to university to study in areas related to Nursing. These may include:

  • Adult Nursing BSc (Hons)
  • Child Nursing BSc (Hons)
  • Mental Health Nursing BSc (Hons)
  • District Nursing BSc (Hons)
  • Midwifery BSc (Hons)

Entry Requirements

All applicants will be required to take an English and Mathematics initial assessment, regardless of previous qualifications. 

Please note that universities are increasingly asking for GCSEs or L2 Functional Skills as part of their entry criteria and therefore if you wish to gain admission to university, you may need to enrol on GCSE or L2 Functional Skills English and Maths course. Please note that it is the responsibility of the student to ensure their current and future qualifications comply with the entry requirements of any university to which they intend to progress.

All applicants will be interviewed to ensure that the course is the right choice based on previous educational and work experience. 

Financial eligibility

This course can be funded through the 19+ Advanced Learner Loan. You will need to check that you meet the eligibility criteria for the 19+ Advanced Learning Loan.

Alternatively, the tuition fee can be paid cash. Installment payment options are available. Please contact a course adviser to discuss payment plans.
