Cloud Computing is a specialisation of computer networking that is concerned with the management of large data in data centres, virtualisation and the provision of cloud services.
Applicants to this programme would typically be technically minded, and they may have previously studied engineering, computing or the sciences. This programme is designed for students interested in computer networks but specialising in areas such as virtualisation and the computer systems used in data centre that support cloud based services. They would also be interested in databases and developing an understanding of managing and analysing big data, and implementing cloud services.
Applicants for this programme will be interested in computer networking and networked application development, and are likely to have some web programming experience. Students will study a balance of modules around the themes of data storage technologies and cloud based services including both the provision and consumption of those services.
Large scale data is stored in data centres and with networked services provided using virtualisation technologies, while “big data” requires a number of different application specific approaches for storage and analysis. Graduates will also be able to implement services to provide this data for manipulation and analysis by a variety of applications they will also be able to develop. Graduates of this programme would be expected to seek employment as data analysts, application developers, data centre engineers, etc.
Students study a balance of modules around the themes of data storage technologies and cloud based services including both the provision and consumption of those services.

The course focuses on cost-effective and agile ways to build and operate business and commerce IT infrastructure. More efficient ways of sharing information and collaborating can offer real competitive advantage.
The student will focus on acquiring and using the expertise required by a cloud systems developer to create solutions to large and complex problems. The expertise and skills you develop from creating and managing infrastructure solutions as part of a team is highly regarded by employers. This course is designed:
- To enable students to be creative and innovative in the application of the concepts, principles and techniques associated cloud computing.
- To enable students to critically evaluate, analyse, design or implement complex systems
- To provide students with a systematic understanding of the comprehensive knowledge and skills needed to collect, interpret, analyse, synthesise and communicate data using appropriate methods.
- To provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate academic rigour appropriate to honours level through the use of analytical and technical skills.
Students are assessed through a combination of worksheets, practicals, presentations, projects and examinations. Module assessment is often by assignment, or assignment and examination.
The final mark for some modules may include one or more pieces of course work set and completed during the module. Project work is assessed by written report and presentation
A wide range of international qualifications which are equivalent to two A Level passes, including International Baccalaureate and European Baccalaureate are recognised. The University will normally accept students who have completed a recognised International Foundation Programme, for example, those offered by UK Further Education Colleges, Universities, and Colleges of Higher Education.
Applicants to this programme would typically be technically minded, and they may have previously studied engineering, computing, mathematics or the sciences. Normally applicants will be required to successfully demonstrate these through an interview
English language proficiency at or exceeding an average IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent in any other approved test), with no score less than 5.5 in any components of the test.
Graduates have excellent employment prospects in the computing, teaching, lecturing and ICT industry, as well as in other areas of the economy. Recent statistics show that the vast majority of graduates from the Computing portfolio are following their chosen career paths within six months of graduating.
Graduates would seek positions as network administrators, network associates, network engineers, business systems analyst, information systems consultant and IT infrastructure manager.
