Functional Skills- Maths Level 2
Course Overview
This qualification is suitable for you if you would like to gain confidence and fluency in mathematics. It will enable you to develop persistence and logical thinking as you apply mathematical tools and approaches.
This is a qualification for work, study and life. Achievement of the qualification demonstrates a sound grasp of mathematical skills at the appropriate level and the ability to apply mathematical thinking effectively to solve problems successfully in the workplace and in other real life situations.
Universities are increasingly asking for Functional Skills Level 2 as part of their entry criteria and therefore if you wish to gain admission to university, you may need to enrol on Functional Skills- Maths Level 2.

Assessment & Course Structure
The assessment for this qualification consists of two question papers:
- 1 hour 20 minutes written examination (Calculator paper)- comprising of short answer, extended response and objective response questions.
- 30 minutes written examination (Non-calculator paper)- comprising of short
answer, extended response and objective
response questions.
Total 80 marks:
– 60 marks (Calculator paper)
– 20 marks (Non-calculator paper)
OCR-set and marked
Awarded Pass/Fail

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
All applicants will be required to take an English and Mathematics initial assessment, regardless of previous qualifications.
Please note that universities are increasingly asking for GCSEs or L2 Functional Skills as part of their entry criteria and therefore if you wish to gain admission to university, you may need to enrol on GCSE or L2 Functional Skills English and Maths course. Please note that it is the responsibility of the student to ensure their current and future qualifications comply with the entry requirements of any university to which they intend to progress.
