Course Overview
In the United Kingdom, millions rely on gas central heating systems to
warm their homes. However, a diminishing workforce and a surging
housing market, has led to an unprecedented demand for professionals
skilled in installing, servicing, maintaining and repairing gas appliances.
Applicants would have the potential to build a career path in the thriving
gas industry where there are skills shortage nationally and locally.
The Skills Bootcamps- Gas Safe First course is a free, Managed Learning
Programme (MLP) which will allow you to undertake the CCN1
assessment with Boiler and Water Heater appliances.
This core domestic gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas
safety competence of an operative in Core Domestic gas work by
practical knowledge and understanding through training and
assessment.
The Gas Safe First MLP course which runs for 16 weeks gives you the
opportunity to further produce sufficient proof of onsite working
experience that is supervised by an accredited and Gas Safe Registered
engineer. You will be required to further build up specific skills in Gas via
building a portfolio of work experience on a range of Boilers and Hot water
appliances.
On completion of your portfolio, you will be awarded an Initial Gas
Qualification (IGQ) which will allow you to undertake ACS assessment.
This programme guarantees you a job interview with an employer-
potentially securing a new job for those unemployed or looking to change
career, land a new role for those staying with their existing employer or to
progress onto Accelerated Apprenticeships or become self-employed,
within 6 months of completion.

set by the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM). This
comprehensive programme offers an array of benefits, including the
achievement of a Framework of Regulated Qualifications (RQF) in

Building Your Portfolio
Using the practical skills and new knowledge you’ve gained, you’ll need to get hands-on experience in the industry. You’ll create a portfolio related to gas work and improve your skills while
working alongside a qualified mentor. There will be frequent progress reviews to track your development and provide support.
Job ready practical skills
To ensure a successful job outcome on completion, you will also develop job ready practical skills, CV writing/updating, job research skills, Interview Skills. Self-employment responsibilities, Employment legislation, Invoicing, Accounts, VAT, Business Sole Trader & Partnerships.
Assessment
Assessment is comprised of the following:
1. Theory written test
2. Practical Portfolio Building (on the job placement with a qualified Gas
Engineer to collect photographic evidence of practical skills & experience)
3. Accredited Summative Assessment (ACS)
4. Gas Safe Registration
Entry Requirements
All applicants will be required undergo an English & Mathematics initial assessment, regardless of prior qualifications All applicants will be interviewed to ensure the Skills Bootcamps- Gas Safe First programme is the right choice based on prior education & work experience.
Target Groups
The fully funded Skills Bootcamps Gas Safe First has been designed to encourage the participation of underrepresented groups which may include, but not exclusively, ethnic minority background, disability, women and veterans.
It is open to all eligible adults within the community, including those employed, not in work or self-employed, serving prisoners due to be released within 6 months of completion of a Skills Bootcamp and those on temporary release.
** Eligibility Criteria **
To be fully funded, you:
• Must be 19 or older on or before 31 August 2023
• Have the right to work in the UK. This can be checked on gov.uk/view-right-to-work
• Have permanent residence England
• Live in England

- Domestic Natural Gas Fires and Wall Heaters (HTR1)

Entry Requirements
You do not need any formal qualifications to undertake this course.
All applicants will be required to take an English and Mathematics initial assessment, regardless of previous qualifications.
