Course Overview
BOCK Training’s New Entrant Smart Meter Installer – Power Training Course’ is a comprehensive managed learning program designed for individuals new to the industry seeking to master the installation and replacement of Power Smart Meters in residential settings. This course is also ideal for current gas metering installers looking to advance their skills to become proficient dual fuel smart meter installers.
Participants will engage in hands-on practice in the installation and replacement of power smart meters within a secure and simulated environment, designed to mirror real-world scenarios.
Once participants have grasped the fundamental principles of power smart meter installation and replacement, they transition to on-site supervised practice under the guidance of an experienced smart meter installer. Mentors will provide advice, guidance, and support, assessing when learners meet the required standards for meter installation and replacement. Throughout this mentorship phase, learners compile a comprehensive portfolio of supervised work.
In the final week, participants undergo initial CoMCoP and NSAP-approved assessments for EUSR registration in Single-Phase, Multi-Rate, and Single-Phase off Multi-Phase installations.

- Implementing customer service for CoMCoP (formerly SMICOP/SMIS) Compliance
- Installing Single-Phase, Multi-Rate & Single off Multi-Phase meters
- Earthing arrangements
- Identifying and addressing unsafe situations or scenarios
- Recognizing different meter configurations
- Restoring existing gas supply and relighting appliances
Building Your Portfolio
Using the practical skills and new knowledge you’ve gained, you’ll need to get hands-on experience in the industry.
You’ll create a portfolio related to gas work and improve your skills while working alongside a qualified mentor. There will be frequent progress reviews to track your development and provide support.
Assessment
Assessment is comprised of the following:
1. Theory test/exam
2. Practical Portfolio Building (on the job placement with a qualified Gas Engineer to collect photographic evidence of practical skills & experience)
3. Accredited Summative Assessment (ACS)
Entry Requirements
All applicants will be required undergo an English & Mathematics initial assessment, regardless of prior qualifications.
